New Year’s Resolutions for Your Business
by LeeAnn Reed
Designer and author of The
Designer’s Survival Guide to QuickBooks |
2007 has
been a challenging year for all of us in the design, workroom,
and housing industries. We had to work smarter and more
efficiently to maintain and attract new customers, while
hopefully increasing profits. To ensure continued growth for
the upcoming year, now is the time to ask yourself, “What are my
Business Goals for 2008?”, and “What are my plans for achieving
them?”
It has been
said that “If you don’t know where you are going, you will
never get there”. The same is true for your business. Most
of us find the thought of creating a Business Plan rather
daunting, so we avoid it like the plague. Then we wonder why we
did not increase our annual sales as much as we had hoped. Why?
Because we did not have a plan. OK, now we have accepted
the fact that a plan is critical to our continued growth, but
where do we begin? To make the creation of our plan less
daunting, think of it as a New Year’s Resolution for your
business, and keep it simple. As a start, define two primary
business goals, and then Action Items and Tools/Software
required to achieve each goal.
Here is a
simple, yet highly effective Business Plan example:
|
Business Goal or Resolution |
Action Items |
Tools/Software Required |
|
1.
Increase annual gross revenue (sales) by 20%. |
Increase average customer sale by 20%.
Compile a design idea book for your customers to select
from (expedites the decision-making process). |
Use
DreamDraper®
software to show your client the proposed
design, and up-sell additional items (hardware, trim,
furniture, accessories). |
|
2.
Close sales faster and more efficiently. |
Close the sale and obtain the deposit on the first
visit. |
Use
Quick Quote® and QuickBooks®
to create Quick Ballpark Estimates
on your laptop in the client’s home. Ask for the deposit
on first visit and e-mail the final estimate to the
client, eliminating the need for a second visit. |
It has been
proven that you can dramatically increase your sale closure rate
in half the time, in the client’s home, using the Quick
Ballpark Estimate process, which is exclusive to Quick
Quote for QuickBooks. Click
